"Latvijas dzelzceļš" (Latvian Railways, LDz) offers a new service Green Switch - regular transportation of semi-trailers by rail, which enables all road freight owners and freight forwarders to provide more efficient and profitable freight transportation.

Advantages of Green Switch services
Truck owners and forwarders:
- Cargo together with a semi-trailer is transferred to the railway, where it is delivered to the port terminal in Liepaja or Ventspils and lifted on the ferry Stena Line
- Efficient use of the company's fleet - trucks are only needed on the route to the terminal
- Heavier loads carried (additional two tons if the first and last miles do not exceed 150 km) without payment of an additional toll or vignette
- Reduced total transport costs per unit load
- Reduced vehicle depreciation, fuel consumption and labor costs
- Saved time and resources - LDz provides transfer of the semi-trailer from the railway to the ferry and at the ferry destination - placing on the railway for further transport
